Chris Cashiola

For Chris Cashiola, oil painting on canvas enables him to express his feelings for the beauty of the natural world.

"In my work I recognize the concepts of Mindfulness, Interbeing, and Impermanence.

Mindfulness, in that you paint in the present moment.   You must focus on what you are trying to accomplish. Interbeing, the concept that everything in the universe is connected, is easily apparent in painting.   In nature all colors are connected. Every color is affected by the reflected light of colors from nearby objects.   Plein air painting also drives home the concept of Impermanence.

The light, the shadows, and the colors change with each moment.

Painting is not an exercise of making an exact representation of things.

My paintings are not a faithful copy of objects, but only an “impression” based on how I experienced the scene."
